A total of 120 main candidates They appeared yesterday to compete in the elections of March 12 in Roca, where the next 12 municipal authorities.
After an intense day at the Municipal Electoral Board, 11 parties and alliances of the city delivered their lists of applicants for the Intendancy, for eight seats in the Deliberative Council and for three spaces in the Court of Accounts.
As anticipated, the distinguishing feature of these local elections will be the collectors, since there will be six candidates for mayor, but almost twice as many lists for the legislative space, concentrating all these adhesions in a single aspirant to the communal leadership.
The data arose from the presentations made by the groups from Thursday until last night, with a formal closure scheduled for 12 p.m.
the mayor, Maria Emilia Soriawill seek re-election and will have five direct opponents: Carlos Banacloy (Rock Pride), Gaston Soto (Changes General Roca, mario alvarez (Front We Are Popular and Social Unity), Alberto Castro (Left Front of Workers Unity) and Elena Correa for the new MAS.
The current president will present herself this time for the neighborhood party Passion for Rockcreated in the last part of 2022, following internal disputes brought the seal of the PJ to an alliance that this time will play with the provincial ruling party.
Banacloy -who resigned as Minister of Production and Agroindustry of the province- will be the representative of the space with multiple adhesions to the Council, appearing as a candidate for mayor on the lists of Together We Are Río Negro, from the Popular Patagonian Movement, from the Democratic Opening Movement, from the Radical Civic Union, from Redes and from Nuevo Encuentro.
For his part, Soto arrives at the elections through the national coalition that integrates the Pro and the Civic Coalition-ARI, also accompanied by leaders of radicalism who do not share the organic line of their party (the first candidate for the Council is María Gloria Verani) and the Convocatoria Cívica Rionegrina group, which emerged years ago from the provincial movement “No al Impuestozo”.
Former councilor Álvarez will seek the mayor’s office this year for the third consecutive time. In 2015 he ran for JSRN (he was also a candidate for first councilor and for that reason he agreed to a seat); In 2019 he ran for the Unión Vecinal and now he will lead the ticket of the coalition armed by Unidad Popular y Somos, which has a strong anchorage in the state union ATE. In fact, the legislative section will be led by Federico Gabarra, head of the union in the Alto Valle Oeste.
“Beto” Castro will be the candidate of the left front that makes up the Partido Obrero, the PTS and the MST and the Socialist Left. The teacher and former leader of Unter will be accompanied by Ivanna Albornoz as the first candidate for the Deliberative.
Finally, the teacher Correa will once once more represent the New MAS in local elections, although unlike 2019, this time she will be accompanied by Socialist Party leaders on the Council payroll.
The collectors in other Roca elections
The breadth of the electoral offer is unprecedented for the Roquenses, who four years ago chose between five lists and in 2015 between four. Four years earlier there had been six and in 2007 eight. In this last process there were also collectors, accompanying the radical leader José Luis Rodríguez, but the former Minister of Economy appeared on three lists, half of which there will be now to project Banacloy.
This uniqueness adds expectations regarding the distribution of legislative positions and the power of comptroller, where Sorismo has had a majority for almost 20 yearsin some periods it was almost absolute, with seven seats.
The distribution of these places will be by the D’Hont system, with a requirement of a floor of 3% of the register to gain access to a seat. That means a minimum of 2,535 votes.
The municipal elections will be held once more with the scheme of 15 circuits, which allow voting in a school close to the address established in the DNI.

The padrón and the first vote in a CECI
As reported by the Municipal Electoral Board, 84,496 people are able to vote in Roca, among them 531 foreigners, for whom the vote is voluntary.
Total there will be 33 establishments enabled by March 12, most of them schools, with the novelty that the Children’s Community Educational Center (CECI) will be used “The Crickets”, from Alsina to 2000, for the vote of Circuit 9. This space will replace School 95, which has been undergoing renovations since last year.
Although the new Census opened the debate on the incorporation of more councilors in the Deliberative, it was not reached on time. “It is possible that in the next one when all the data is really available and the official information arrives, they should discuss this need and whether or not they believe it is convenient to increase the quota for the number of councilors,” said the head of the Electoral Board, Mariela Pagano. .
The referent stressed that schools are assigned according to the circuit and the alphabet. Each institution has an alphabetical order, which is why it is not always the school closest to the citizens’ homes, but rather the closest to the circuit of each house.
The definitive registers were closed yesterday, therefore modifications cannot be managed.
