One and a half million dollar prize for the Indian team on ‘ability, sportsmanship’

The Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced on Sunday that T20 World Cup The winning national cricket team will be awarded a prize money of around one and a half million dollars as a reward for their ‘competence, determination and sportsmanship’.

India beat South Africa by seven runs to win their first major title since the 2013 Champions Trophy in a thrilling final in Barbados on Saturday.

The award was announced by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, which will be distributed among around 25 people and includes the entire team including coaches and support staff.

“I am delighted to announce a prize money of Rs 125 crore ($14.9 million) for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” Shah said in a statement.

If the prize is divided equally, it comes to regarding six hundred thousand dollars per person.

Shah added that the team displayed exceptional talent, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, congratulating all the players, coaches and support staff for this great achievement.

This cash prize is in addition to the International Cricket Council (ICC) record prize pool of $11.25 million for the tournament.

According to the ICC, as the winner of the tournament, India will be awarded $2.45 million in bonus, the highest amount in the history of the tournament.

South Africa will receive $1.28 million as the runner-up.

The team’s victory in the final was well celebrated in India at midnight and fans in blue cricket shirts on cars and motorbikes took to the streets in various cities including the capital New Delhi.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on social media on Sunday that he had spoken to the team and congratulated them on their ‘great skill and passion’.
