ONDA extends its quality system to six airports by 2024 – Today Morocco

ONDA presented, Wednesday, February 1, the results of 10 months of deployment of the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) approach at Casablanca Mohammed V airport and announced the schedule for its generalization at the main airports.

The National Airports Office (ONDA) is continuing its customer-oriented approach by improving its processes. “Over the past two years, our country has resolutely embarked on the path of modernity within the framework of economic, social, inclusive and sustainable development”, explains Mohamed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, during the presentation of the assessment of 10 months of deployment of the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) approach at Casablanca Mohammed V airport. He also indicated that ONDA is committed to the preparation of its institutional transformation project which will part of the reform of public enterprises and establishments. For her part, Habiba Laklalech, director general of ONDA, said during her speech that the positive results achieved at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca make it possible to extend the approach to other airports.
Lean Six Sigma will facilitate another large-scale project, which is that of the automation and digitization of the customer journey, notes Habiba Laklalech. And to underline: “Our ambition to all is to raise the airports of the Kingdom in the upper third of the world rankings by 2035 in terms of quality of service in accordance with the objectives of the new development model”.
Performances
Ten months following its entry into service in the international arrivals area of ​​Mohammed V airport, the approach (LSS) is reaping its first positive results. This system reduces waste of time and unnecessary activities at each stage of the process to ultimately reduce processing times and improve the quality of service while optimizing the use of resources. In 2022, the rate of compliance with baggage delivery times on international arrivals and the time spent and processed by passengers at the PAF Arrivals have improved significantly compared to the reference year 2019. “Thanks to the approach Lean Six Sigma, baggage delivery times have been reduced by 25% by implementing actions aimed at optimizing the process.
The average baggage delivery time during the peak summer period has fallen from 40 to 30 minutes,” said Abdelhak Mazour, director of Casablanca Mohammed V airport during the ceremony held on Wednesday celebrating the success of the deployment of the Lean Six Sigma approach. at Casablanca Mohammed V airport and its implementation in other airports in Morocco. The LSS approach has also enabled this airport to reduce the average waiting time before composting at the Arrival PAFs from 21 minutes to 10 minutes (-53%) and the average variability of this duration by 40%, particularly during the period peak. In mid-February, 3 new luggage belts recently installed will be put into operation, which will further improve the recorded performance. It also turns out that the LSS system has overall contributed to the 30% reduction in the international processing circuit for arriving passengers, compared to the performance for the year 2019.

The next airports on the list

The application of this approach has borne fruit at Casablanca Mohammed V airport and will therefore be extended to other airports and other processes. ONDA is also supported by 3 experts in the field to make quick and inexpensive improvements, with the main beneficiaries being passengers on the one hand, and employees on the other, according to the Office. In this sense, the LSS approach will be generalized in 2023 at the airports of Marrakech – Menara, Fez Saiss and Oujda Angad. And from 2024, it will be put into service at the airports of Agadir Al Massira, Tangier Ibn Battouta and Rabat-Salé. The same source notes that LSS managers have been appointed at these airports and have received “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt” certification training enabling them to improve their skills and implement the LSS approach in a professional manner. As a reminder, the meeting to launch this system at Mohammed V airport took place last March. In 2022, Mohammed V airport welcomed more than 7.6 million passengers, recording a recovery rate of 74% compared to 2019. More generally, the Kingdom’s airports experienced a commercial traffic volume of 20,592. 350 passengers and 174,820 airport movements, i.e. respective recovery rates of 82 and 83% compared to 2019.
