ONCF. Al Boraq trains now run on clean energy

ONCF is taking another step forward in its energy transition. Since the 1is January, all of its Al Boraq trains run on clean energy.

The National Railways Office (ONCF) has switched Al Boraq to green mode. It has just announced that it has taken a further step in its energy transition, by running since yesterday, January 1, all of its Al Boraq trains, using clean energy. They are thus the first to offer eco-responsible trips using 100% wind energy.

In its press release, the Office explains that it has carried out its green transformation gradually, by switching 25% of its overall energy consumption to green energy, reaching 50% in 2023 before bringing it to all, at medium term. “Through this ecological transformation, ONCF is in line with the national energy strategy, led under the leadership and leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, who places renewable energies at the center of our country’s energy mix. », Specifies the ONCF.

In detail, this ecological transformation provides for an increase in the share of renewable resources to place them, from 2030, at more than 52% of the installed capacity. Thus making the Kingdom one of the emerging countries most committed to the development of wind and solar energy. The ONCF thus strives, within the framework of its energy policy and its CSR strategy, to work towards progressive greening and decarbonization, continues the Office.

It must be said that in recent years, the rail carrier has carried out several proactive initiatives in line with its eco-responsible vision. Among these, we can rate among others: the progressive certification of railway sites according to ISO 14001 and 50001 standards, the systematic realization of impact studies of major projects, the annual assessment of the carbon footprint, the adoption of an eco-driving system, the use of alternative photovoltaic energies at stations and buildings, etc.

Also today, thanks to clean energy supplied by a national operator, the ONCF is making the electricity supply cycle of the national rail network green by replacing its electricity consumption with clean energy. According to the ONCF, this will allow it in the short term to improve its carbon footprint overall, with the equivalent of 120,000 tonnes of CO2 avoided each year, or even 4 million trees planted. “Traveling by train is one of the best ways to limit your carbon footprint. On average, the train emits 25 to 30 times less greenhouse gases than other modes of transport ”, underlines the Office, specifying that its bet of the ONCF is now to eventually supply all of its trains run entirely on clean energy.

The first ONCF trains to offer eco-responsible travel using 100% wind energy, Al Boraq trains will invite people to travel well, to travel better, to travel responsibly, for trips in comfort, safety, very fast and at low cost. carbon bill… Thus, the Office intends to encourage its clients to adopt a more respectful attitude towards nature, by reducing their carbon footprint.

To support the operation, the ONCF will soon launch marketing actions aimed at making Al Boraq the best ally for eco-responsible travel.
