From Long Beach in Miami, relive the season 1987 of IndyCar which was then called CART PPG Indy Car World Series, today Milwaukee.
A week following the 500 Miles, CART sets up shop in West Allis, Wisconsin for the third consecutive oval event. The Milwaukee Mile is a regularly visited one-mile oval right following the Indy 500. 1987 was no exception.
Dominating the whole month of May at Indianapolis, Mario Andretti lost the victory in the last quarter of the race following an engine problem when he had led 170 of the 177 laps. He shares the second row of the starting grid with his son Michael. Mario and Michael Andretti are also the last two winners on the Milwaukee Mile, respectively in 1985 and 1986.
Victorious over the Phoenix Raceway, Robert Guerrero takes pole position on the Milwaukee Mile and shares the front row of the starting grid with Bobby Rahal. This fourth race of the season is scheduled for 200 laps, for 200 miles. Like a Phoenix, 22 pilot pilots are qualified. Dale Coyne and Tony Bettenhausen Jr. failed to qualify.
