JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Singer Once Mekel considers his conflict with Ahmad Dhani, his former partner in the band Dewa 19, to be part of his career journey.
On the other hand there is also a sense of regret.
“Yes, that’s actually part of a career journey. For me every job has a beginning, there is an end,” said Once Mekel, quoted from the YouTube channel Kompas.com, Tuesday (1/7/2023).

“It’s just that I also regret why the drama had to end like that. It seems that many band players have quit their bands from time to time,” Once Mekel continued.
He admits that there was a time when he felt he was no longer dynamic in the band Dewa 19.
“When you play football, you only have a name, but you don’t make ‘Ah!’, teamwork doesn’t make beautiful goals anymore,” said Once Mekel.

He also believes that the music industry is actually complicated, including agreements and distribution of fees for everyone involved in making songs.
Once said that the crisis of trust between musicians occurred a long time ago.
“The Indonesian music industry has gone from era to era, trust issues are a problem that has almost always existed from generation to generation. Even from the pre-digital era,” said Once Mekel.
What’s more, according to him, the authorities do not yet have strong rules to give a deterrent effect to musicians who violate them.

As is known, in early 2023, Ahmad Dhani stated that Once Mekel never paid royalties when singing Dewa 19 songs at commercial events.
Ahmad Dhani also banned Once from performing his band’s songs at a later date.
Involving the LMKN, the feud between Once and Ahnad Dhani ended with a statement from Once that he would no longer sing Dewa 19’s song.
