ON VIDEO | A spectator climbs the boards of the ice rink to hit a referee

In the middle of a hockey game, a spectator climbs the boards of the ice rink to hit a referee. It happened last Friday in Trois-Rivières at the Claude-Mongrain arena.

The incident happened during the Quebec Elite Hockey League tournament. Young hockey players are 13 years old. The match was between Collège Français and Corsaires Pointe-Lévy.

After a stoppage of play during the first period, the person in charge of the stopwatch forgot to start the time on the clock. For several seconds, the players played with a time that showed 4:07 minutes.

It was at this moment that a spectator decided to take matters into her own hands. She left the bleachers to go near the ice. She first tried to get a referee’s attention by knocking on the bay window.

Without success, the lady then climbed onto the ice rink board. On the video, we see her banging the head of the referee to tell him that time was not rolling. The lady seemed frustrated with the situation.

In the stands, we hear people wondering regarding the behavior of the lady. The referees finally called a stoppage.

The person who filmed these images was watching his son play. This parent from the French College explained to TVA Nouvelles that everyone in the stands was amazed at this scene. Especially since this match had no significant meaning for both teams.

The tournament organizer has confirmed the event. He explains to TVA Nouvelles that he resolved this situation internally. He says he doesn’t want to explain the incident any further. The match ended with a score of 3 to 2 for the French College.
