On their holiday… tragic conditions for Palestinian workers under the siege and bombing

Palestine – Today the world celebrates the working class, at a time when the Palestinian worker is living in tragic conditions, amidst war, destruction, and ongoing displacement in Gaza, and a stifling siege in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

On the first of May, many countries around the world celebrate Labor Day, and observers unanimously say that the working class is the class that suffers the most as a result of the continued war and siege, calling for the intervention of the international community and labor and human rights organizations to save the workers of Palestine.

Ayman Al-Raqab, professor of political science at Al-Quds University, said, “The Palestinian worker represents the vast majority of the labor sector in Palestine, and because of the limited sources of work within Palestinian cities, he is forced to go to work in Israeli cities, given that the horizon is also blocked for him to work in Arab countries.”

According to his talk to Sputnik, the labor sector in Palestine is estimated at more than 400,000 in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and they work in all forms of work available in the market, but the political circumstances affect their source of livelihood as a result of the security conditions, and their receiving insults at Israeli checkpoints.

He stressed that “a portion of the Palestinian workers were killed as a result of an attack by extremists on them, that is, a right to a living dipped in blood. In addition to all of that, they are ignored by social security, which makes them exposed to many risks. Most of the Palestinian workers make a daily living. Long leave or disability means poverty and destitution.”

Al-Raqab continued: “On International Labor Day, we hope to pay attention to the Palestinian worker, who has the right to choose the type and place of work freely and is guaranteed social security to support him and his family if he becomes old or unable to work.”

In this context, the Palestinian political analyst, Thaer Nofal Abu Atiwi, considered that “as the world celebrates International Workers’ Day on May 1, the war is still continuing and the Israeli aggression has continued for the seventh month on the Gaza Strip, under extremely tragic and difficult circumstances that all the people of Gaza are experiencing.” “.

According to his talk to Sputnik, the working class is considered the group most affected by the continuation of the war, as they do not have any income or economic source of livelihood that would enable them to resist the specter of death from starvation, due to the lack of food.

He added, “The working class has been the disabled group in Gaza, for many years, due to the siege, but it has been greatly damaged in light of this war due to the displacement from its places of residence and work in other places, and this is in addition to the fact that all features of normal life and its continuation are suspended and completely dependent on Gaza, since the seventh of last October, where the tragic humanitarian conditions and the displacement and displacement of more than a million Palestinian people in the city of Rafah, south of the Strip.”

Abu Atiwi believes that “all these circumstances give evidence and indications that International Workers’ Day is coming to the Gaza Strip in light of war and aggression that is still ongoing, and in light of the collapse of the economic and living conditions of the working class in Gaza, where there is no work and numbers of crippled unemployment accumulated before the war as well.” .

Atiwi addressed an appeal to all relevant parties, and all Arab and international countries and institutions, to “stand by the Palestinian worker and strengthen and support his steadfastness by all available means, because the Palestinian worker is one of the most important pillars of society, and he needs the support of his institutions, factories, and all of his requirements in order to advance the economic reality.” For the better, in light of the destruction of most factories, facilities, and economic and labor institutions in the Gaza Strip.”
