Louisville-based Michter’s will begin shipping 2024 bottlings of US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon in September. First launched in 2014, Michter’s pioneered the toasted barrel finished product category.
“Ten years ago, after extensive research and experimentation, we launched our first toasted barrel whiskey: Michter’s US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon,” said Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco. “We had no idea such a thing would happen. Breakthrough sexual products.
To create this special roasted version, Michter’s first uses fully aged barrels of its America’s #1 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and transfers the whiskey to a second barrel made from 18-month seasoned wood for further aging. The second barrel was toasted to exact specifications, but not scorched.
As Michter’s maturation master, Andrea Wilson is responsible for Michter’s maturation and refinement program. “It’s a testament to our team that many other major distilleries have followed our lead and released finished whiskey in roasted barrels. There are many different roast profiles that require heated barrels to produce wonderful flavours. This year’s Michter’s USA *1 Toasted Barrel Bourbon reminds me of fall evenings around the campfire, baking treats with graham crackers, marshmallows, caramel and butterscotch,” says Wilson.
This 91.4% ABV whiskey has a suggested retail price of $110 for a 750ml bottle.
