Guanajuato, Guanajuato. April 5, 2022.- On the occasion of World Physical Activity Day, the secretary of health, Daniel Díaz Martínez, calls on Guanajuato residents to practice some activity or sport for at least half an hour every day, this helps reduce risk factors for diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and overweight.

Physical activity is any movement of the body that works the muscles and requires more energy than resting.

Walking, running, dancing, swimming, yoga, and yard work are some examples of physical activity.

This 2022, the motto “Ensuring a sustainable and peaceful future for all: the contribution of sport”, is celebrated on April 6 of each year.

Díaz Martínez added that this day was established in 2002 by the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to make the population aware of the importance of daily physical activity and the benefits it represents for health.

Children and adolescents should perform 60 minutes of moderate or intense physical activity daily, such as games, sports, travel, recreational activities, physical education or the practice of a sport.

Perform 150 minutes of weekly moderate physical activity such as walks or bicycle rides, housework, games, sports or programmed exercises.

When physical activity is performed, the risk of developing hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, breast and colon cancer decreases; In addition to the above, it improves bone health and is essential in caloric balance and, therefore, in the control of body weight.

Despite the above, one in three adults does not have a sufficient level of physical activity in the world and it is estimated that approximately 3.2 million people die each year due to physical inactivity.
