On the occasion of Hungarian Poetry Day, Libri hides volumes of contemporary poets in Budapest’s public spaces

We have been celebrating Hungarian poetry since April 11, 1964, on the birthday of Attila József, one of the greatest figures of 20th century literature. This year, Libri wants to bring the most beautiful Hungarian poems, as well as the work of our greatest classical and contemporary lyricists, closer to the readers with a game.

“On April 11, we will place a book of poems by a contemporary Hungarian author next to the statue of our famous poets or on a point of the public space named following them.

It is important for us to draw attention to the connections between classical and contemporary authors, our greatest lyricists, because we think that the essence of literature is to meet in stories.” – says Ludvig Orsolya, Marketing and Communications Director of Libri. He added: “poems are read by far fewer people than novels or other prose works. However, it is worthwhile to make reading poetry a daily practice, since in most cases it does not take more than 5-10 minutes, and at the same time it has an extremely good effect on our soul and mental health”.

Playful readers can find books by Péter Závada, Zsófi Kemény, Márton Simon and Dani Varró in various parts of the capital, among others. On Poetry Day, Libri will continuously upload clues to the hidden volumes on its own social media platforms, and players can of course also take home the copies they find.
