On the edge of Zion: Lihya Raz missed the Olympic final by a few points

It was close, even very close, but apparatus gymnast Lihya Raz missed the ticket to the prestigious final of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 by only one place this evening (Sunday).

The 20-year-old Raz presented a great performance in the qualifying stage, when she opened the competition with a score of 12.833 points in the ranked parallel exercise. She then added 12.3 in the beam exercise, continued to floor and scored 12.833 and finished on the vault table with 13.449 points.

In total, Israel’s senior gymnast earned a total score of 51.632 points, which ranked her 31st overall, out of 60 participants. After filtering the limit of 2 participants per country in the final of the battle rav, Raz reached the 25th place, a distance of only 0.06 points from a place in the final, where the Colombian Luisa Blanco entered.

Currently, Raz is the first reserve athlete for the final. Usually in the rab competition, gymnasts who think they have no chance of a medal, or want to focus on the final competition on one of the apparatuses, withdraw and one such case is enough for the Israeli to enter.

If Raz does indeed enter the finals, it will be the first time in the history of the sport in Israel at the Olympic Games. In the men’s competition, Olympic champion Artyom Dolgupiat secured his place in the floor final for the second time in a row, where on Saturday he will try to defend his title.
