On the 41st wedding anniversary of Princess Diana.. Here are new details from her legendary wedding

Can you believe it’s been 41 years since Princess Diana’s wedding to Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral in London? We can’t believe it either, which is why we decided to take a trip back in memory and revisit some of the lesser-known details regarding the fantastical party and celebration in 1981.
In honor of Princess Diana’s 41st wedding anniversary on July 29, here are some facts you might not have known regarding her big day from Yahoo.

1- The perfume bottle was spilled on the wedding dress before the ceremony

According to Diana’s makeup artist on her wedding day, Barbara Daly, Diana accidentally left a slick of perfume on her gorgeous David and Elizabeth Emmanuel wedding dress minutes before walking down the aisle. Diana was trying to dip some of her favorite scent, Quelques Fleurs, on her wrist when it spilled. With no time to remove the stain – though it had been cleaned – Diana had to think quickly, so she had the dress lifted from the stained area so that it looked like she was just trying to avoid stepping on it.

2- The word “obedience” has been omitted from the vow of marriage

Diana was the first property ever to do so. Instead, according to the New York Times, “Diana” replaced “I obey” with “love him, console him, honor him and keep him, when he is sick and healthy.” At the time, the dean of Westminster Abbey, praised the royal couple for making the vows more equal. Prince William and Kate Middleton took the same step. Rescind “obedience” from their promises in 2011.

3- The cost of the wedding was 48 million dollars in 1981

Fantastic number for this time!! According to Business Insider, when we adjust for inflation, that would be $110 million today.

4- There was a spare dress waiting in the wings

According to Elizabeth Emmanuel, Princess Diana’s dress designer, Diana had a spare dress at the wedding – in case her original wedding dress design leaked to the media for an early look – so they might be sure it would surprise everyone. As a result, they have taken several precautions, including making an alternative dress made of the same, but understated, material, just in case the photos come out.
In an article published in The Press Courier the day following the royal wedding, it was stated that Princess Diana’s wedding dress was the most closely guarded secret in fashion history.

5- Her bridal shoes carried a hidden message

Not only were Princess Diana’s wedding shoes adorned with 540 sequins and 130 pearls, the slippers were hand painted with the letters “C” and “D” (for Charles and Diana).

6- Sewing a diamond-encrusted horseshoe on the waist of her dress

Princess Diana’s biographer Tina Brown said it was kind of a good luck charm.

7- She has a plan in case it rains

The dress was made of a fairly lightweight fabric, which meant that if it rained, it would be destroyed, which worried dress designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel. So, they decided to pick up two umbrellas, and then covered them with white and ivory cloth. “They were trimmed with the same lace as the dress and hand-embroidered with tiny pearls and sequins. Luckily, they weren’t needed,” Elizabeth Emmanuel told the Daily Mail.

8- She bought her special sapphire ring from a catalog

Her wedding ring was made of a 12-carat sapphire surrounded by 14 diamonds (now worn by Kate Middleton). It was not made to order, as royal tradition usually dictates. Instead, it was selected from the Garrard jewelry collection catalog by Diana herself.
