The rise in prices hasn’t exactly given food a boost in image. Nevertheless, our food is regarding much more than just the price, says Land Creates Life.
Vienna (OTS) – 2023 was not an easy year for food. The increased energy costs have caused the prices of our food to skyrocket – with the result that food has become a symbol of inflation. However, the increase in prices does not change the fact that food and its production have a major influence on people, animals and the environment – and therefore more factors should play a role when purchasing than just the price. With its educational work, the Land Creates Life Association was able to make a contribution to creating this awareness among consumers despite all the hurdles last year. Looking back to 2023, Hannes Royer and Maria Fanninger say the founding duo of Land creates life:
“We are overwhelmed by how much interest people now have in topics related to our food. The need for neutral information in this area is high – perhaps even higher than ever before. That’s why next year we will bring even more transparency to our food system and clearly pursue our goal of comprehensive awareness-raising. We are particularly looking forward to providing the next generation with all the knowledge they need to be able to consume truly consciously. We are incredibly grateful for everything we have been able to achieve here and are starting the new year full of energy.”
Many paths, one goal: more awareness of food
A particularly important channel for imparting knowledge is the podcast If you know nothing, you have to eat everything. With this, the club won the Ö3 Podcast Award at the beginning of 2023. The podcast now has 164 episodes in which the founding duo of Land Creates Life, Hannes Royer and Maria Fanninger, take a weekly look behind the scenes of our food system with exciting personalities from business, science, politics and society.
The booklet “Diets & Food Trends” was published in the summer, and the extensive reports “Agriculture, Nutrition and Climate” and “Beef from AustriaTwo particularly relevant and exciting pieces of research were published, which also received great media interest. In total, the Land Creates Life website contains around 1,400 pages of knowledge regarding food and its production, over 500 infographics and more than 400 videos.
With its Austria-wide educational initiative focusing on food in Austria’s schools, Land Leben has been providing children and young people with food knowledge, nutrition education and consumer skills since 2021. Here, with the founding of the Academy for Conscious Food Consumption and the acquisition of new pilot schools in 2023 reached two important milestones. The free teaching material made available to educators as part of the initiative is receiving great interest and has already been downloaded over 110,000 times.
