“I arouse my curiosity as a resident of Toulouse.” Laurent Moussinac is originally from the Pink City. Although he traveled and took advantage of the Erasmus program during his studies, his heart brought him back to his hometown.

Now a videographer, he created in March 2024 the Instagram account Oh la la ToulouseOn the social network, he reveals the cultural heritage of the city center, by sharing hidden anecdotes.

Oh là là Toulouse, success

On Instagram, Laurent Moussinac can count on a community “that got into the game”. During the week, subscribers can discover in video or photo the history of a place, a building, a sculpture or of an object.

Content also relayed in the form of quizzes or man-in-the-street interviews… Enough to attract the curious! Followed by nearly 29,000 Internet usersOh là là Toulouse is a great success, as Laurent Moussinac explains:

There are people from Toulouse who are very happy to rediscover the city, because you never know everything. There are also people who have recently arrived who thank me because it helps them discover Toulouse. And then there are also people from Toulouse who have moved, who are homesick, who miss Toulouse and so they thank me too.

The continuation of an aborted project

Since childhood, Laurent Moussinac has developed a taste for visits and discovering Toulouse. So much so that one day, a project matured in his head.

« I wanted to make a documentary on the history of the streets of Toulouse. I would have called it Head in the clouds. But the project was not mature enough and I did not really know where I was going. I let it die.”

Ultimately, his Instagram account is a more polished continuation of what he had in mind. “In January, I told myself it was time to create my channel, my account and make short videos.” That’s how Oh là là took root.

Information coming from all sides

Laurent Moussinac is not not a historian, nor a heritage specialist. He will collect his information by searching everywhere he can. Books, documentaries, the internet, he navigates in search of unusual little nuggets to deliver.

“For ten years, I have been exploring the city centre differently. I go glean information right and left. I jump at every opportunity,” he confides.

Moreover, this Wednesday, July 23, at the bend in the rue du Pont de Tounis, while he was telling the story of the old brewery “Le Strasbourg”, topped with a sculpture of the King of Flanders, Gambrinus, a Toulousain called out to him.

“I had never noticed that he was carrying a half… Well, it’s more like a pint! You can even see the barrel with the tap. Thanks for the information,” marvels the passerby. For Laurent Moussinac, there are no finer demonstrations. “Here it is, Oh là là Toulouse live!”

“Giving the power to take ownership of this city”

Unknown stories, period objects to discover, discreet art deco buildings, Toulouse has no shortage of them. “It’s a real garden of discoveries, I have fun and discover new things every day.”the enthusiast rejoices.

His goal: to make this information accessible to everyone. “I am very attached to living together. I see the city as the sum of the people who live there. They are the ones who make the city.”

But then, how do we take ownership of the city?

I believe that knowledge is power. So giving this knowledge about Toulouse is giving the power to take ownership of this city.

Allow time for reflection

Oh là là Toulouse is therefore the Instagram account to follow to know everything about the little corners of the city. But be careful, Laurent Moussinac does not always give the answers as quickly as hoped.

“I love asking questions.”he jokes. Already on the social network, but also by going to question the inhabitants in the street. Recently, it was a slot in the Musée des Augustins that caught the attention of his subscribers.

What was it used for? When was it last used? The people of Toulouse were interviewed on site and invited to give their ideas on Instagram. We had to wait a week before we got to the bottom of the story… And what a story!
