The program of the Passeurs de films festival this summer 2022 is really very eclectic. On Sunday July 28, at 6 p.m., in the Salle du Rinville, around fifty people flocked to the screening of the documentary feature film “Histoire d’un regard” by Mariana Otero on the photographic work of the great reporter Gilles Caron, released in 2019 indoors. Honored this year, as evidenced by the photos dedicated to the cinema that line the walls of the island, Gilles Caron has had a dazzling career. Disappeared in 1970 at the age of 30 in Cambodia, he became famous for the legendary photo of Daniel Cohn-Bendit in front of the Sorbonne in 1968, gratifying a policeman with his insolent smile.
But the man has also covered conflicts such as the six-day war in Israel, the Vietnam war or that of Biafra and many more. “Through this film, I tried to understand Gilles Caron’s unique gaze by immersing myself in the 100,000 or so pictures left by the photographer”, comments the director.
