The increase in the minimum wage is expected – barring a shocking contingency – to take place on Friday.
The amount that will constitute the new minimum wage in the country was to be announced today (27/3) during the cabinet meeting, however its cancellation due to the ongoing proceedings in the Parliament gave a slight extension to the government announcements. According to the information, the new minimum wage will finally be announced next Friday (29/3) at the ministerial meeting that will be held at Megaros Maximos, that is, following the completion of the three-day debate on the motion of censure.
It is recalled that the Minister of Labor, Domna Michailidou has already submitted its proposal to the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. As the competent government lips have repeatedly said, the new floor will have the number “8” in front of it, which was probably self-evident, given that today it is at 780 euros and must reach 950 euros by the end of the government’s term.
Minimum wage: The 4 scenarios and the possible “surprise”
However, how much will the minimum wage; As iefimerida.gr has written, specific scenarios have been on the discussion table for a long time, but also a possible “surprise”.
- The first scenario foresees an increase of the floor by 5%, which practically means that it will rise to 819 euros, i.e. 39 euros above the current levels.
- The second scenario predicts a 5.5% increase, bringing the floor to 823 euros, i.e. 43 euros more than today.
- The third scenario foresees an increase of 6%, i.e. by 47 euros, and this means that the floor from April 1 should rise to 827 euros.
- The fourth scenario puts the growth bar at 6.5%. In this case, the floor will rise to 831 euros, i.e. 51 euros more than today.
Based on the data so far, the most prevalent scenarios should be considered those that foresee an increase of 6%-6.5%, which means that the new floor can reach or exceed 830 euros. However, the surprise scenario should not be ruled out, i.e. an even greater increase towards the levels of 840 euros, as compensation for the “freezing” of an extraordinary allowance at Easter for the economically weaker.
The three years and the allowances
The increase in the minimum wage drags along the three-year employees, i.e. those who are entitled to an increase due to seniority. Contrary, in fact, to the previous years, where this increase only concerned those who had “locked” seniority in 2012, from this year when the three years were “unfrozen”, thousands will see an even greater salary increase.
For example, according to iefimerida, if the new floor rises to 823 euros, with one 3-year it is set at 905 euros, with two 3-years it rises to 988 euros and with three 3-years at 1,070 euros. If the new minimum is established at 831 euros, with the increase for one 3 years of previous service it will reach 914 euros, for two 3 years at 848 euros and for three 3 years at 1,080 euros.
The increase in the minimum wage will also affect a number of benefits, including unemployment benefit and the new maternity benefit. Especially with regard to the unemployment benefit, from 479 euros today, it can reach 510 euros, while the new framework that provides for its redistribution during the 12-month subsidy is being formed.
