OMRON Complete Blood Pressure Monitor and ECG Monitor

Omron Healthcare (Thailand) launches OMRON Complete, a blood pressure and electrocardiogram monitor that allows Thais to monitor their hearts at home after finding statistics showing that there were 349,126 patients with cerebrovascular disease in Thailand in 2023. According to WHO, if every country in the world can improve access to effective treatment, it will help prevent the deaths of up to 76 million people worldwide.

Yusuke Kato, Managing Director, Omron Healthcare (Thailand) Co., Ltd. He said that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), 4 out of 5 people worldwide suffer from hypertension, which is a major global health threat. It was found that 1 in 3 adults worldwide have high blood pressure. Between 1990 and 2019, the number of people with this condition has doubled to 1.3 billion people. This disease causes serious health problems such as stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, and leads to death such as stroke and heart attack if not treated promptly. If access and effectiveness of treatment can be improved, up to 76 million deaths worldwide can be prevented.

For OMRON Complete, it is a device that can measure both blood pressure and electrocardiogram in one device. This combination of technology allows users to closely monitor their heart health, enabling the detection of arrhythmias, detecting AFib (Atrial Fibrillation), which is a risk factor leading to stroke. Such conditions are often difficult to detect and do not show symptoms because they do not occur all the time.

Patients with symptoms can have their blood pressure measured and their ECGs recorded. Regular monitoring of atrial fibrillation (AFib) is very important because it can help reduce the risk of stroke and allow for timely treatment.

5 risk factors for high blood pressure

Dr. Suraphan Sittisuk, Secretary-General of the Hypertension Association of Thailand and a specialist in heart and blood vessels He said that from the report of the Ministry of Public Health on cerebrovascular disease in Thailand in 2023, there were approximately 349,126 patients and as many as 36,214 deaths, with most of the deceased being under 70 years old, which is a worrying situation, especially during the period when Thailand has fully entered the aging society. The elderly group is a group at risk of having a higher chance of suffering from high blood pressure.

In addition, the rapidly changing social conditions, both haste and high competition, also result in behaviors that increase the risk of this disease. Currently, it is found that people with atrial fibrillation (AFib) have a 5 times higher risk of stroke than normal and cause a 2-3 times higher risk of heart failure. Therefore, raising awareness and campaigning for regular blood pressure measurements is important.

The 5 risky behaviors that are the main causes of developing high blood pressure are:

  • Overweight and Obesity
  • Consuming food that is too salty
  • Not exercising and not moving your body during the day
  • Work stress and economic factors
  • Drinking alcohol and smoking

In addition, traveling to the hospital, especially government hospitals, has long waiting times and is crowded, while private hospitals have high costs. Therefore, having quality and standard medical equipment is another option that will help Thai people take care of their blood pressure and heart regularly. It will help reduce and prevent coronary artery disease and related serious diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease.

Launch of a short film to raise awareness of stroke

Pathama Boonrat, Marketing Manager, Omron Healthcare (Thailand) Co., Ltd. He added that the company has produced a documentary short film, “The Sound of AFib”: Music that raises awareness of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. OMRON has explored the sound of irregular heartbeats, which are conveyed through the short film, “The Sound of AFib,” which shows how the sound can indicate Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). This is an innovative and interesting documentary short film that aims to raise awareness about Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). It combines electrocardiogram melodies from AFib patients and cardiologists, and is presented through composers, using musical notation to create and convey how Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) interacts with a patient’s heart rhythm. The result is that we have gained valuable information to understand what AFib can do to your heart rhythm. This is a way to monitor and listen to your heart sounds to alert you to a high-risk stroke.

Due to the increasing rate of the global aging population, the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AFib) is rapidly increasing worldwide, and the risk of stroke is also increasing. In addition, research shows that 40% of people with AFib are asymptomatic, and these patients have never experienced AFib in their daily lives and may not be aware of the risks to their heart health that they face every day.
