Through a study developed by researchers from the Vall d’Hebron Oncology Department, it was declared that the Spanish drug Omomyc has become a promising advance in the fight once morest cancer, since it is safe and presents promising antitumor activity. .

In this first human trial of the drug, 22 patients tested it. All of them, diagnosed with solid tumors in an advanced metastatic stage, had been treated with between 2 and 12 different treatments and “had no more therapeutic options,” Vall d’Hebron reports in the statement.

Dr. Elena Garralda, first signatory of the article in Nature, has highlighted above all the case of “a patient with pancreatic cancer who remained in study for more than six months in which the diameter of the tumor was reduced by 8%.” , and which presented an 83% reduction in tumor-derived DNA circulating in the bloodstream. In this specific case, the decrease in the total volume of all the patient’s metastases was also analyzed and it was found that this had been reduced by 49%, an encouraging result for metastases.

«From very low doses we already see clinical benefits in patients. In 8 of the 12 patients who underwent a CT scan following 9 weeks of treatment, we observed a stabilization of the disease in which the growth of the tumor had stopped,” concludes Emiliano Calvo, another of the signatories of the study.
