OmniUM is there for all of us

The aim of OmniUm is to build bridges and stimulate critical thinking and active citizenship. It is about building an active community of students and academics who share their vision of the future.

Chibuye emphasizes the importance of connecting different disciplines and schools of thought within the UM community through conversations. This can redefine the relationships between different disciplines. “By coming together, we can learn from each other and foster intellectual growth and democratic principles,” she says.

The platform should become a place where students can learn and develop essential skills, such as critical analysis, public speaking, active listening and finding solutions together.”

Various topics can be addressed, such as climate solutions, diversity, welfare issues and social developments, such as current populism.

Safe space for dialogue

According to Chibuye, there is a great need for an open exchange of ideas, especially in the current time of increasing polarization. “Yes, especially now, because we are experiencing rapid, drastic changes that are stirring emotions and strongly affecting the well-being of students. That is why we offer an open and safe space, to come together, share grief, have honest conversations and imagine a peaceful and just future.”

Otherwise we will retreat into our own limited world of thought, warns Chibuye. “Then there is a risk of a kind of compartmentalization that creates a breeding ground for intolerance and alienation. We are an international and diverse university where everyone is welcome, and that is why there must be room for different narratives, in an open and respectful dialogue.”
