Omicron in force in St-Martin and St-Barthélemy, where a curfew comes into effect

Between December 27 to January 2, there were 1,104 new cases of Covid-19 in Saint-Martin and 435 in Saint-Barthélemy. Omicron, now in the majority, is plaguing the two territories. So much so that the prefect once once more establishes a curfew, on the spot, from 24 to 5 a.m., for at least a month.

The northern islands are also experiencing an epidemic boom, linked to the coronavirus, particularly the Omicron variant.
In this context, the prefecture is taking new measures to curb the circulation of the disease.

Return of the curfew

In order to take into account the significant increase in the number of positive cases, the prefect of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, Serge Gouteyron, has decided to implement a curfew, from this Friday January 7, 2022, to midnight to 5 a.m. this for “at least a month“.
Travel during this time slot is prohibited, except on presentation of a personal or professional derogatory certificate. A procedure now well mastered, normally, by the population.

Serge Gouteyron is aware of the consequences of such a measure, in particular on economic activity, on the island where tourism is a key sector of activity. But, in view of the epidemic situation, this curfew is necessary, according to the local representative of the State.
