Several weeks ahead of France, projections in the United Kingdom do not bode well for a return to normal for many weeks.
On Friday, the SAGE, the British equivalent of the French Scientific Council, gave an extensive conference on the Omicron wave on the other side of the Channel.
For the british expertss, the peak of the wave has been reached and the descent is very strong. However, they indicate that the scenarios envisaged do not necessarily augur well for an immediate return to normal.
For them, the level of contamination will not drop to zero so quickly. The main consequence will be a relatively high level of hospital admissions (around 1,000 daily hospitalizations). It is certainly 4 less important than at the height of the crisis but it shows a decline not as clear as hoped.
But above all, for these British experts, such a level of contamination and hospitalization augurs a new wave of Omicron around the summer when the British should have returned to their life before with its social interactions facilitating transmissions.
But for the SAGE, apart from a new variant, the wave might be almost insensitive for the health services. A way of saying that the United Kingdom, like other countries ultimately, will thus live with the virus.
