The creators of the first watch worn on the Moon anticipated the next big step by creating a stylish new Speedmaster, designed to measure every moment on Earth and Mars. Developed in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), OMEGA’s Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer lives up to its name.
The OMEGA caliber 5622 drives the new Marstimer. A highly precise, temperature-compensated quartz movement handles the watch’s many digital and analog functions with speed and efficiency.
The unique 45 mm chronograph, in a grade 2 titanium case, can track times and time zones, in our world as well as on the mysterious red planet. Developed to assist scientists, the OMEGA Marstimer offers many valuable tools for those working in space research.

Its functions, developed under a patent license by ESA, include an MTC function to track the date and time from the Martian ground to the prime meridian, while taking into account that a day on Mars is longer 39 minutes than on Earth. It also offers an innovative solar compass indicating true north on Earth and Mars. Besides, the watch also offers the applications of the traditional Speedmaster Skywalker X33, such as mission elapsed time (MET), phase elapsed time (PET), alarms and perpetual calendar.
And, like OMEGA’s other professional models, it also performs its tasks in style. Its classic black dial provides a contrasting backdrop for the multiple analogue and digital indications, the reading of which is further facilitated by the Earth and Mars symbols distinguishing the functions used. An oxalic anodized aluminum bezel in hematite red, reminiscent of the characteristic dust of Mars, surrounds the dial. This striking hue also adorns the seconds hand, which features a hematite gradient from black to red, a visual code designed to highlight the professional instrument status of this OMEGA.
Turning the watch over reveals OMEGA’s famous Speedmaster inscription and the no less famous seahorse medallion, engraved in relief in the center of the case back. Around it, we can read the words SPEEDMASTER X-33 MARSTIMER, ESA TESTED AND QUALIFIED. A testament to the legitimacy of the partnership and the integrity of the timepiece.

For Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, the brand had to create the Marstimer in view of its heritage with the world of space exploration. “Anyone interested in space, or just science fiction, is obsessed with Mars. This planet arouses so much curiosity and is the source of many incredible stories. We even have a name for its imaginary inhabitants. Mars is so near and so far away at the same time. We dream of walking there. Being on Earth and being able to track its movements gives the term “timepiece” a whole new meaning. I am delighted with this new addition to the famous Speedmaster family. »
For those wishing to change the grade 2 and 5 titanium strap, the Marstimer also comes with a dedicated NATO strap and a strap changing tool. These are included in the special watch roller, whose inner lining is a nod to the Red Planet: a reproduction of Hebes Chasma, a unique steep-sided canyon on the surface of Mars.
Although a manned mission to the red planet is not yet for tomorrow, OMEGA’s new Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer will soon be available in many places on Earth. A must-have for professionals, space enthusiasts and avid collectors, it’s stylish, easy to use and a perfect complement to OMEGA’s Speedmaster Moonwatch.
