Streaming: Omar Sy will play a samurai for Netflix
The actor has confirmed that he will play Yasuke in a new five-episode series.
Omar Sy will be an African samurai. The ‘Lupin’ actor posted on his Instagram account a screenshot of the ‘Hollywood Reporter’ article announcing his role in the upcoming Netflix project, ‘Yasuke’.
He will hold the title role of this production retracing the life of the slave who became the first black samurai of Japan. This true story, which has already given rise to an animated series, will be shot in live action and in five episodes.
«Yasuke m’inspire»
Nick Jones Jr., who has already written the screenplay for the animated series, will be the author of this new project, which should be faithful to the biography of the samurai. Omar Sy will be the producer with the production houses of Shawn Levy (to whom we owe “Stranger Things”) and Forest Whitaker.
In a press release, Omar Sy explains: “Yasuke has been inspiring me for some time. With this superb team we will create a remarkable series on what it means to be an African samurai in Japanese history. The action sequences promise to be phenomenal and ingenious.”
