Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al-Sayed arrived in Tehran on a 2-day visit, the talks will focus on regional diplomatic and security issues.
Iranian state media reported that the development came two days after Muscat announced a prisoner swap between Iran and Belgium.
Oman has long been a negotiator with the West and Iran and has brokered the release of a number of dual nationals and nationals.
Iranian media reported that Haitham bin Tariq al-Sayed will meet with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, to discuss issues such as the strained relations between Egypt and Tehran and Iran’s controversial nuclear program.
The visit comes at a time when Iran is facing allegations that Russia is using Iranian drones in its war against Ukraine, which Tehran denies.
Efforts by six world powers to restore Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal have been stalled since last September as concerns grow in the West that Iran is rapidly innovating its nuclear program.
In 2018, US President Donald Trump declared Iran a dangerous country and announced withdrawal from the nuclear deal signed by the former president.
He said that Iran has developed missiles carrying nuclear weapons, if the agreement continues, the race of nuclear weapons will start and a nuclear weapon cannot be allowed to a state that shouts for the destruction of the United States.
