The Sultanate of Oman, which wants to set up its own hydrogen production from 2025, might one day supply it to Switzerland, says Omani Minister of Energy Salim al-Aufi. ‘That’s why we are in contact with Swiss energy suppliers’.
The sultanate is interested in Swiss know-how in the use and transport of hydrogen, added the minister in an interview broadcast on Sunday by the NZZ am Sonntag. ‘We are talking to Swiss research institutes. And the financial center [suisse] is important for us, because most of the time it will not be Oman who will invest, but rather local and foreign private investors.
Mr. al-Aufi assures that his country has great potential for the production of hydrogen from renewable energies. ‘In the southern part of Oman, we can use wind and solar energy at the same site. Thanks to this combination, we are one of the three regions in the world that benefit from the best conditions’.
According to him, there are only a few countries that have similar advantages, such as Australia, Morocco, Chile and Namibia.
