Omani national team delegation arrives in Basra

Iraq – The Omani national football team delegation arrived in Basra Governorate, southern Iraq, today, Tuesday, September 3, to face the Iraqi national team in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Iraqi national team will face its Omani counterpart next Thursday at Basra International Stadium at 7 pm in the opening match of the decisive stage of the qualifiers.
According to Alsumaria correspondent, the Omani national team delegation arrived at Basra International Airport a short while ago, in preparation for facing the Lions of Mesopotamia in the World Cup qualifiers next Thursday, noting that the Omani national team will conduct its first training session today, Tuesday, in one of the stadiums of the sports city in Basra.

In the same context, the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports confirmed the readiness of Basra International Stadium to host the Iraq-Oman match next Thursday, as all preparations for the anticipated match have been completed, which will be the beginning of the Lions of Mesopotamia’s journey in the decisive stage of the qualifiers.

The local government in Basra Governorate also confirmed the completion of procedures and the development of security and service plans to ensure the success of hosting the match, as the streets will not be closed to vehicles on the day of the match, unlike what happened in previous years.

The Iraqi national team will play in the second group in the qualifiers, which includes the teams of South Korea, Jordan, Oman, Palestine and Kuwait.
