What many people don’t know is that David Åhman’s mother is a popular SVT profile – who helped many during the pandemic.

During the Olympics, the Swedish people have followed scores of talented athletes in various disciplines that they might not otherwise follow slavishly – we have devotedly watched both judo, table tennis and not least beach volleyball. The Swedish duo David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig are some of the world’s top beach volleyball players, and represent Sweden in the Olympics. Before the sport began to be shown more on Swedish channels, few people recognized the athletes, but since the EC was broadcast on SVT in 2022, there has been a difference.

– Before we won the EC last summer, nobody knew who we were in Sweden, but we have always been bigger internationally. People have kept an eye on us there, David Åhman has told us The Express.
But David is not the only celebrity in his family – his mother is the popular training profile Sofia Åhman. Over the years, Sofia has written several books and participated in various television programs as a training expert. But it was only during the corona pandemic that she became a truly popular figure.

Then Hemmagympa with Sofia was broadcast, a program with home training that helped the Swedish people to take care of their bodies when they might not be able to go to the gym or move outside in the same way as before. The program was praised and awarded with a prize at the 2020 Crystal Awards.

David Åhman says that after the win in the European Championship, he received compliments several times in town – but that those compliments were shared with his mother.
– Then you just wait for it, and then it comes: “I train with your mother every morning,” says David Åhman to Expressen.
But the beach volleyball star is proud of his mother, and appreciates how much she also gets involved in his sport.
– But I actually just think it’s fun. It’s fun for mom that she’s become so popular with what she’s doing, then I think she’s doing her part to also help people open their eyes to beach volleyball. So it’s good for me too.
