Olympic ice hockey champion Sergei Yashin dies at 61

Former striker of the Moscow “Dynamo“and the USSR national hockey team Sergei Yashin suddenly passed away at the age of 61, according to the club’s website.

Other details of Yashin’s death are not specified.

In 1988, Yashin became the Olympic champion as part of the USSR national team, following which he was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. Yashin is also a two-time world champion (1986, 1989), USSR champion (1990), eight-time winner of the national championships. In 1989, he was selected by Edmonton under the 141st number in the NHL Entry Draft, he did not play a single game in the North American League.

In 2014, Yashin was included in the National Hockey Hall of Fame.
