The committee decided to cancel thousands of hotel night reservations in Châteauroux, in the department of Indre, which is to host the sports shooting events during the Olympics.

“It’s a huge disappointment. We turned away people for the summer. We have no explanation. I feel the anger rising,” castigated Véronique Gaulon, president of the departmental branch of Umih, the main employers’ union in the hotel and catering industry.
The Olympic committee justifies itself by asserting that “only” 482 rooms would have been vacated. “Today, with more precise knowledge of this information, we have effectively vacated the rooms, which we, the organizing committee, no longer need. This will also allow new opportunities for spectators, athletes’ families, even service providers who work on the organization and who are looking for accommodation solutions” explained Tony Estanguet, the boss of the Games.
The rooms will quickly be put back on the market, in order to welcome even more tourists during a crucial period for France.
