A “QR Code” to travel around Paris during the Olympics? Île-de-France and Paris will receive millions of tourists and hundreds of athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games. From Friday July 26, 2024, the date of the opening ceremony, there will be chaos in the Capital and his region. A chaos… which has just received a new layer of complexity. Laurent Nunez, in the columns of Le Parisien on November 28, 2023, revealed the somewhat strange system that will be put in place. In short: Parisians, tourists and Ile-de-France residents will simply not be able to move freely in the Capital during the tests and other events. To travel freely in Paris you will need “authorization”. How to obtain authorization to travel in Paris during the Olympic Games? Obtaining the key to not being let down by the security of the event, which promises to be high, will be relatively simple. A platform will be launched by then. And Laurent Nunez explains: “You will have to register in advance on a digital platform by providing a certain number of supporting documents, address but not only”. Once registration has been completed and validated, those concerned will receive a QR Code which must be “presented during checks”, underlines the prefect in the columns of Le Parisien. These checks will be carried out around areas defined by the prefecture… whatever the situation, even for a simple restaurant. “You will have to justify the fact that you are entering the perimeter to go to a restaurant and therefore, there will necessarily be a registration on the platform. » The metro was to be free during the Olympic Games Laurent Nunez’s announcements are sure to create controversy and make life impossible for Parisians. And they are in addition to the announcements concerning metro prices: the RATP metro ticket, during the period of the Olympic Games, will cost 4 euros, almost twice as much as in normal times (the ticket will cost 2, 15 euros per unit from January 1, 2024). And other price increases are announced. However, it is quite simply… a broken promise. A few hours following the announcement of the price of transport in the Capital during the sporting event, some Internet users brought out the city’s application file. And, surprise: Paris had promised free transport for ticket holders, on competition days, and “during the entire duration of the Paralympic Games for accredited people”. A promise which would have cost around 45 million euros to Île-de-France Mobilité which defends itself and assures that it has never validated the principle of free transport. As a reminder, in 2017, in the Paris2024 application file, free public transport for ticket holders was promised… pic.twitter.com/CQNmF8bXFd — Pierre Rondeau (@PierreR0ndeau) November 28, 2023
