Like a dream come true. This is how the Olympic champions described what they felt when they met the homes that the Government of Antioquia will give them for the results obtained in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Governor Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona had promised Olympic medalist Mari Leivis Sánchez and Paralympian Karen Palomeque that, due to the results obtained in the Olympic Games, they would have their own home.

And he kept the promise. This Wednesday, October 9, they went to the Robledo neighborhood to, in the company of Governor Rendón, see the homes to which they will soon receive the keys so that they can call home.

The two medalists will be given an apartment worth 195 million pesos each and that were acquired thanks to the contributions of the Government of Antioquia, through VIVA, Indeportes and the IDEA.

«The good news is that, in addition to the contribution that VIVA, Indeportes and IDEA have already made in equal parts, we are going to have the help of Capital, the construction company of the unit, and Camacol, which will allow us to have expenses of much smaller writing and do the white work to give greater comfort to the apartments”, said the departmental leader.

Recognition of effort

The 71-kilogram Olympic runner-up in weightlifting, Mari Leivis Sánchez, did not hide her happiness upon knowing that her family will finally have their own home and that she got it by not giving up on her dream of being a high-level athlete and, of course, due to the commitment acquired by the departmental government.

“I am excited and happy to know that it is a dream come true, that I share with my family,” he stated.

For her part, Karen Palomeque, gold medalist in the 100 and 400 meter dash and bronze in long jump, thanked Governor Rendón for having recognized, as no one had ever done, the years of effort and sporting discipline. “This is recognition of that effort, I feel very happy,” he said.
