A taste of what millions of Greeks and visitors experienced in 2004 in Athens, which hosted the 28th modern Olympic Games, was taken by hundreds of volunteers and ordinary citizens who were on the evening of Thursday 19/9 at the Kallimarmaro Panathenaic Stadium.
The Hellenic Olympic Committee honored the Olympic winners of 2004, as well as the protagonists of the mythical conquest of the football EURO that year.
Many protagonists of the historic year experienced by Greek sports in 2004 were present – among them volunteers of the Athens Olympic Games and members of the opening ceremony.
Attended and honored Olympians and the Paralympians of Olympic Games of Athens, but also several of the members of the unrepeatable National of Greece who won EURO 2004, led by Otto Rehagelwho reunited with his players 20 years after the great success.
Of course, there were also many of the Olympians of this year’s Games, such as Lefteris Petrouniaso Apostolos Christouthe Antonis Papakonstantinou and Petros Gaidatzis, Zoe Fitsiu and Milena Kotouo Theodoros Tselidiso Dauren Kurouglieff and many of our Paralympians as well as dozens of members of both the 2004 and 2024 Olympic delegation.
The surprise of the evening was the shocking one Anna Vissi who performed three of her songs inviting the athletes to sing with her on stage, while earlier Elena Paparizou sang My Number One and dedicated it to all these top athletes.
The event ended with the wonderful ERT National Symphony Orchestra as well as the impressive Cosmos Laser & Light show, under the moonlight.
The presenters of the event were Betty Magira and the Christos Ferentinos.
There were also dozens of “Athens 2004” Greek volunteers, reliving the unique moments they lived 20 years ago, as well as dozens of citizens who wanted to remember everything that happened 20 years ago at the Olympic Games.
