Olymel management announced in a press release on Wednesday that the closing of the evening production shift at its Vallée-Jonction slaughterhouse will be brought forward by almost two months, due to the lack of manpower.

The company said the evening shift was scheduled to cease operations in mid-September, but due to labor availability issues, it will be closed as of July 22. The 260 employees who work there will be reassigned to the day shift as of the return from vacation on August 7.

Olymel also mentions having signed an agreement on the allocation of retention bonuses with the workers’ union on June 1, in order to ensure the maintenance of operations until the closing of the plant next December. The company recalls that a voluntary relocation plan and a redeployment committee have been set up for employees.

Olymel management indicated that ” all these measures aim not only to adapt to a changing situation in terms of the workforce, but also to respect the slaughter volume provided for in the agreement signed with the Éleveurs de porcs du Québec last April. »
