Olymel closes its Saint-Hyacinthe plant

Olymel is closing its 107-employee plant in Saint-Hyacinthe. The plant will close on February 10 due to a reorganization in the fresh pork sector.

“This decision is part of the reorganization of the fresh pork sector and is the result of an analysis undertaken several months ago and which has reached its conclusion today,” said Olymel CEO Yanick Gervais in a press release.

Thursday, Olymel pointed out that all employees will be offered to be relocated to the region.

Last July, the company had already announced the reduction of the plant’s packaging activities.

Reorganization of the workforce, reduction in the volumes of products to be packaged… Olymel is restructuring its activities.

“Primary processing establishments (slaughtering and cutting) are now able to carry out the packaging operations carried out until now in part by the Saint-Hyacinthe plant. The products stored until now at the factory on rue Saint-Jacques will be moved to other internal or external distribution centers.
