Olivier Blanchard: Economic Perspectives on Debt and State Financing

Olivier Blanchard prefers doves to hawks. Allusion to the economic camp named after the little birds of prey because it advocates budgetary rigor rather than recourse to debt for state financing. Aged 74, the man who was chief economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 2008 to 2015 is enjoying a very active retirement. Since this summer, he has not hidden his concern about debt which is becoming chronic and debt service costs which are increasing following the fastest rise in interest rates in modern history.

Le Temps: You are considered more of an economist close to Keynesian thinking, considered more relaxed on debt. Why warn about the level of debt of States?
