OLIVIA Rodrigo and Dan Nigro were named Best Songwriters of 2024 by ASCAP — American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, at the Houdini Estate, Los Angeles, Wednesday (8/5).

The two works of Rodrigo, 21, and Nigro, 41, are “Vampire” and “Bad Idea, Right?”

“Olivia Rodrigo and Daniel Nigro are a true pop dream team. After taking the world by storm with SOUR, the duo followed up with a legitimate modern masterpiece in 2023: GUTS. “Their bold, grunge-inspired second album brought critical acclaim, mainstream obsession, sold-out world tours, and chart-topping hits,” ASCAP wrote on their official website.

On Thursday, May 9, Nigro expressed his gratitude for the award via social media.

“Thank you so much to ASCAP for awarding Olivia and I the Songwriter of the Year award!!!” he said in an Instagram post.

“And thank you to @chappellroan for giving me the award, and reminding the world of my time at Pizza Hut… feeling so grateful today,” he continued.

Rodrigo reflected on how some of his songs should be revised to add songwriting credits after fans pointed out similarities between his hits and other artists’ works.

“It’s very frustrating to see people doubting and denying my creativity,” he told Time in a December 2021 interview.

Nigro gives his opinion on how growth can bring negative reactions. “It seems like people get sensitive about things when songs become very popular,” he added.

Rodrigo says he doesn’t like being compared to others in the industry. (People/Z-3)
