ANALYSIS: Clausura Tournament: the favorite, the comeback, the crack and how it will be defined
His name began to be heard loudly in April of this year, when Juan Reynoso took advantage of his trip to Europe with the aim of visiting the selected teams to make a stop in Denmark. “We are interested in inviting players of Peruvian descent. It is a niche that must be exploited. If they are young, the better,” said the coach following the talk.
In recent weeks he began the journey to obtain his DNI and since Saturday, Oliver, now with a Peruvian DNI, has been on Peruvian soil. Yoshimar Yotún was the one who received him in the best way. A clip that went viral in which the Sporting Cristal midfielder – one of the references – welcomes him with words in English and Spanish.

The national team has opened its arms to the “new one”. She welcomed him as one of her own, as they usually do with everyone. According to journalist Luis Carrillo Pinto, Sonne has adapted very well to the group. “They say that he is a very attentive, respectful boy and he continually mentions that he ‘feels proud to represent Peru’ and that his dream is ‘to play in the World Cup,’” he tweeted.
Oliver had his first training this Sunday. And from now on there is talk regarding his position on the field. First things first: its multifunctionality. That characteristic that Juan Reynoso himself has highlighted and that has excited the fans. “There is no such multifunctionality in the average Peruvian player,” tells us Victor Zaferson, a Peruvian scout who has seen – according to his own admission – six entire games of the side in Denmark.
“I saw him at right and left back. They told me from there that until he was 18 he was a mixed midfielder (Jairo Concha type) and that sometimes he has played as a winger on the right because of how easy it was for him to reach the area. But that position is not common. He is more lateral,” he added.

There are four positions that Sonne can occupy: left or right winger, mixed midfielder if required and winger. Another characteristic that some specialists highlight is their sensitivity in their feet to place precise centers. He has played 67 games in the Danish first division and has provided seven assists, in addition to scoring five goals.
In fact, this season (in which he has played twelve games between the Danish league and cup), Sonne has played eleven times as a right back, his usual position, and only once did he play as a right winger: it was just last Friday in the 5-0 win over Lyngby.
The last game before joining the Peruvian team, Sonne played as a winger.
How many chances do you have of adding minutes in the Qualifiers?
“It is not an emergency in the position because there are ‘Lucho’ and ‘Aldito’ (Aldo Corzo), who is always questioned, but everyone likes him, he is irresistible, he delivers, even if they don’t want him,” he analyzed in “ RPP” Nolberto Solano, coach and former assistant to Ricardo Gareca in the national team in the years before Reynoso’s arrival.
For Ñol, there is no urgency for Sonne to prove himself in the national team. The position, in theory, is filled. But Oliver, as explained, has multifunctionality on his side, so he might be used at any time. Clearly it is unlikely that he will start in these two Playoff games, but it would not be unreasonable to think regarding a debut.
“I would love to play those games ( once morest Chile and Argentina). If I perform well and the coach likes me, I hope to get a few minutes. I hope we get the six points. Thank you all for the warm welcome and I promise you that I will not disappoint you,” Sonne told FPF Play.
The Peruvian team – with Sonne surely in the delegation – will visit Chile in Santiago this Thursday, October 12, for date 3 of the Qualifiers. And on Tuesday the 17th they will host Argentina, the world champion, with all their stars. Two very difficult games that might be a litmus test for the Bicolor and also -perhaps- for the “new Lapadula”.
