Young Briton Oliver Pearman had a fantastic debut with Ferrari in the Formula 1 World Championship on Saturday, and was chosen as the driver today in Jeddah.
Biermann, the youngest Ferrari rookie driver ever at the age of 18 years and 305 days, finished seventh in the Saudi Grand Prix, in which he participated as a replacement for Spaniard Carlos Sainz, who underwent surgery following suffering from appendicitis.
In Jeddah, Biermann outperformed his compatriots Land Norris, McLaren driver, and the legendary Lewis Hamilton, seven-time world champion.
“I don’t even know what happened in the race,” Berman told reporters following his performance in Saudi Arabia won praise. “It’s strange not to watch a Formula 1 race. This may be the first Formula 1 race I haven’t watched in a long time.”
He stated, “I watched these drivers fight when I was growing up, and it is good to share the ring with them. It gives me pleasure to gain their appreciation.”
Praise came in from all sides, as his teammate, Charles Leclerc, who finished the race in third place, said that the reserve driver, who was focused on Friday morning on Formula 2, was just getting started.
“Today was great,” Leclerc said of Berman. “It is very impressive and I am sure he feels very proud. Everyone has noticed his great talent and I am confident that his participation “permanently” in Formula 1 is a matter of time.”
Hamilton, whose first appearance in the championship came in 2007 before Pearman was two years old and finished ninth in Saturday’s race, was the first to shake hands and hug the young driver as soon as he got out of the Ferrari.
“He clearly deserves it, and I’m sure we’ll see him once more in the future,” said Norris, who congratulated Biermann, the No. 66 driver, who scored points in his first appearance in the championship since its inception in 1950.
Ferrari president Fred Vasseur confirmed that Berman did not make any mistake, and was able to increase his speed in the end, overtaking Norris and Hamilton.
He added, “From the beginning of the race, he was very strong, and the comments were good. He was very calm through the internal communication circle.”
Berman said he treated the race like any other race, noting that the fast car helped him.
He added, “The car was very fast on Saturday, so this was a big advantage, but I think we performed well without mistakes, and this is exactly what we are trying to achieve.” “I am happy with my performance.”
He pointed out that his points tally in Formula 1 exceeds what he achieved in Formula 2.
“I don’t know what I can do because I don’t think I will compete in Formula 1 until the end of the year,” he said. So my goal was to do a great job this weekend. I think I did well. “That’s all I can do.”
“I think I’m going to have a nice, big dinner tonight, and I’m going to have a big dessert too, which I think I deserve,” he continued.
