Oliver Glasner: “I’m not David Copperfield”

The tension increases.

After three training sessions and his first press conference in the service of Crystal Palace, Austria’s star coach Oliver Glasner’s English football Premier League adventure begins on Saturday (4 p.m., Sky) in his home Selhurst Park in south London, which can accommodate a good 25,000 visitors.

Expectations are high for the 49-year-old Riedauer, who led Eintracht Frankfurt to triumph in the Europa League. The first stage goal is to stay in the league; the “Adler”, who are ranked 15th, are currently five points ahead of the first relegation place.

Ideally, Glasner should start with a win – once morest penultimate Burnley, who are already well behind with 13 rounds to go and have not won a single one of their last eight competitive games. However, it cannot be expected to be a sure-fire success. “I’m not a magician, I’m not David Copperfield,” emphasized Glasner.

“The players listen and are great characters. We had more meetings than training sessions. Now it counts on the pitch. The most important thing is that the three points stay at Selhurst Park,” said the Upper Austrian.

For Crystal Palace it is also regarding reconciling with their own supporters. At the end of the Roy Hodgson era, protest demonstrations over the club’s sporting decline were on the agenda. “When you have bad times, you need support. I am convinced that the fans will help us,” Glasner exudes confidence. He can turn the tide.
