BRITISH young driver Oliver Bearman has signed a contract with Formula 1 team Haas to race next season, the US team announced on Thursday (4/7).
Bearman impressed on his Formula 1 debut with a seventh-place finish for Ferrari at this season’s Saudi Arabian GP. He has reportedly signed a multi-year deal with Haas.
The 19-year-old is currently a member of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy and is Ferrari’s reserve driver. He also races for Prema Racing in Formula 2.
“It’s hard to put into words how much this means to me. To say that I’m going to be a Formula 1 driver for the Haas F1 Team makes me incredibly proud,” said Bearman.
“To be one of the few people who can do something you dreamed of as a kid is something extraordinary,” he added.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said, “It’s fantastic to be able to give his first full-time seat to a talented young driver like Oliver Bearman.”

“He has developed into a very mature driver under the guidance of Scuderia Ferrari and the world saw that when he was called up at the last minute to compete in the Saudi Arabian GP,” he added.
At the Saudi Arabian GP, which took place last March, Bearman replaced Carlos Sainz following the Spaniard suffered from appendicitis.
He qualified 11th despite not driving a race car until final practice. Bearman went on to finish seventh.
Bearman will become the fourth British driver to race in Formula 1 next year, alongside Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Lando Norris. (Ant/Z-1)
