neos finally woke up – ensure a World Heritage-compliant solution
Vienna (OTS) – “Late, but it is now dawning on the neos that something went wrong in the Heumarkt case. Now the mayor must finally wake up and take a stand on the world cultural heritage,” said the planning spokeswoman for the Vienna People’s Party, municipal councilor Elisabeth Olischar.
As the UNESCO statement recently showed, the new Heumarkt project is also not compatible with the World Cultural Heritage. If the controversial Heumarkt project were to be built as presented in the media, Vienna would ultimately lose its World Heritage status.
“But instead of taking the problem seriously, SPÖ city councilor Hanke recently even said that the loss of the world heritage site would not be a broken leg. For more than 10 years, the city government has been mumbling regarding the redesign of the Heumarkt area, for six years Vienna has been on the red list of endangered world heritage sites – six years in which the city of Vienna simply did not manage to create a draft of the Heumarkt project that conformed to World Heritage standards to work out. I demand a clear statement from Mayor Ludwig on how the city government stands on the world cultural heritage,” concluded Olischar.
