Through a Knowledge Integration course, knowledge was delivered to 60 elderly people from Concepción.
More than 60 older adults belonging to social organizations such as Lo Custodio, Tiempo Libre, Lo Galindo, Las Amapolas, San Sebastián, Despertar del Adulto Mayor and Sol de Esperanza, received their diplomas for having been part of the training on digital literacy.
In particular, the training was carried out by 45 students from the UCSC School of Medicine in a Knowledge Integration (INS) course. Through face-to-face workshops, the young people gave general indications for an aging process, health strategies and digital literacy.
“What is relevant regarding this initiative is the intergenerational exchange and the satisfaction of the digital needs and expectations of the elderly in our city. In addition, we must inform that in 2023 this INS can be taken by students of all UCSC careers”, commented Dr.(c) Claudia Carrasco, nurse and academic in charge of the subject.
The project carried out within the framework of the investigation entitled “Effects of an intergenerational intervention of digital literacy on the well-being, social support and quality of life in the elderly of Concepción”, which responds to a fund delivered by the Research Department with the objective of to evaluate the effect of this type of learning in older adults.
“A very positive impact was seen following finishing the course, because older people feel well-being knowing how to use technological elements, that has become an important social support,” reflected Carrasco.
