The Bavarian beer festival, commonly known as “Oktoberfest”, organized by the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is a hot topic in Morocco. This big party is scheduled to be held on October 28, in Bouskoura.
The Kingdom of Morocco is regarding to host one of the most prestigious beer festivals in the world. A long-awaited event, since cold beer lovers are already snapping up tickets. And it will be necessary to pay no less than 800 dirhams to claim a ticket to participate in this event which promises to be grandiose. Entries that go up to 1,400 dirhams for non-members, specifies Blades. A party that creates controversy in the Cherifian kingdom.
Already the party is taking place in a country with a Muslim majority where the sale and consumption of alcohol to Muslims is prohibited. A law dating from the 1960s stipulates that it is forbidden to “offer or sell alcoholic beverages to Muslim Moroccans or minors under 16”. It turns out that Moroccans are known to be heavy consumers of alcohol. This means that steps are being taken to lift this restrictive measure.
“It is I who will preside over the drafting of this new text and it is I, as Minister of Justice, who will oversee the development of the future Code of Criminal Procedure,” Abdellatif Ouahbi said in early June. “I find it absurd that, on the one hand, an alcohol consumer pays taxes on alcohol and that on the other, they repress him by sending him to prison”, accusing him of having consumed this alcohol. And yet alcohol brings a lot to the authorities of Morocco.
The report on the execution of the Finance Law for the 2021 financial year published by the Royal Ministry of the Economy and Finance indicates that revenue from royalties imposed on alcohol reached approximately 810 million dirhams, while forecasts were of the order of 651 million dirhams. Also in 2021, revenue from the levy imposed on types of beer was around one billion dirhams.
