Oil depots in Brittany: is there a risk of a fuel shortage? – Brittany

  • 1 “No risk of shortage in Lorient”

  • In Lorient, the oil depot is not blocked, but the operators are on strike for two days. “However, they anticipated their movement by exercising a lot of activity on Monday. Theoretically, there is therefore no risk of a shortage”, we are told at the depot. Every day, 150 to 200 trucks come here to load up with diesel, gasoline, fuel oil… bound for Morbihan, Finistère and Ille-et-Vilaine.

  • 2 No blockage in Brest

  • According to our information, the Brest deposit is not currently blocked. Employees went to the rally organized in the city center. The Brest site should therefore be able to ensure the distribution of car fuel and heating oil throughout Finistère and in the west of Côtes-d’Armor. It also delivers fishing diesel to Saint-Malo (35) and Vannes.

  • 3 The Vern-sur-Seiche depot blocked for two hours

  • The Vern-sur-Seiche (35) depot was blocked early on Tuesday, between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The demonstrators then set up a roadblock towards Cesson (35) before heading towards the center of Rennes to join the demonstration. The Bretillien depot should therefore continue to supply fuel to service stations.

Located 10 km from Rennes and supplied directly by a pipeline from the Total refinery in Donges (44), the Vern-sur-Seiche depot supplies the west (Ille-et-Vilaine, Côtes-d’Armor, Finistère, Sarthe and Mayenne) in 95 and 98 unleaded petrol, diesel and domestic fuel oil.

  • 4 Dry stations in case of extension of the movement

  • The influx of motorists to service stations is beginning to cause shortages. In Brittany, around fifteen stations are dry on Tuesday morning, out of the 813 in the region, and around fifty have run out of fuel.

The refineries themselves continue to produce fuel: gasoline and diesel which will have to be stored on site until further notice, for lack of being able to leave. When the on-site reserves are full, the refineries will have to stop, but this would require several days or even weeks of blockages.

In the meantime, the 10,000 stations in France are now well supplied, and they can count on 200 fuel depots.

As in October, the possible effect in the stations will really be felt if the general assemblies actually vote for renewals. At the Donges refinery (Loire-Atlantique), near Saint-Nazaire, the strikers have already said they would hold out until Friday.
