The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, stressed the importance of the existing partnership between the OIC and the Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, reiterating its continued support for this Covenant.

Mr. Brahim Taha reiterated the support of the OIC in an address read on his behalf by the Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, Tariq Ali Bakhit, before the High Level Ministerial Panel of the 9th World Forum of United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, held on November 22 in Fez.

In his address, the content of which was reported by the Saudi Press Agency on Sunday, the Secretary-General stressed that this forum offers the international community a unique platform to develop joint initiatives and establish partnerships, many of which are constantly supported by the OIC.

He highlighted new forms of feelings and practices associated with Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia and discrimination, which unfortunately continue to grow in some parts of the world, noting that these phenomena inciting hatred can only be eliminated through a common effort to sensitize diverse societies throughout the world on the value and virtues of cultural pluralism, and to promote harmony among cultures and civilizations.

The OIC Secretary General noted that the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations is called upon to maintain its essential role as a clearinghouse of information, catalyst and facilitator of a culture advocating dialogue.
