OIC and IPHRC discussed Jammu and Kashmir human rights issues with Palestine

Riyadh: The Organization of Islamic Council discussed the issue of Jammu and Kashmir with Palestine as a human rights issue. The OIC and the organization’s Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission IPHRC have also addressed human rights issues in Jammu and Kashmir along with Palestine.

The Organization of Islamic Council has put forward a proposal to consult with the commission on several important issues, including monitoring human rights issues in Kashmir. OIC Secretary General Hissin Ibrahim Taha and Noura Al Rashoud, Executive Director of the Organization’s Independent Human Rights Commission, discussed issues including Kashmir and Palestine in Jeddah. Noura Al Rashoud is the first woman to head the IPHRC, the OIC’s human rights body.

The Commission was offered the advice of the OIC on a number of important issues, including the development of a permanent mechanism for monitoring human rights issues in the Jammu and Kashmir region. The OIC proposed to hold discussions with the Commission on human rights issues in the Palestine issue and on issues such as Islamophobia and Muslim minorities. OIC Secretary General Taha said that he will work with the Commission on human rights issues related to the rights of women and children.

The OIC’s human rights objectives focus on issues related to fundamental freedoms and democracy. General Secretary Taha explained that the OIC also plans to represent the organization in international forums such as the UN Human Rights Council. Al-Rashoud, the Commission’s Executive Director, pointed out that it is responsible for carrying out the commission’s mission to protect the interests of the Islamic world.
