Demand clearly shows that guests are willing to pay the prices!

Vienna (OTS) “The record value for the summer clearly shows that, firstly, very, very many guests are very happy to come to Austria even when the whole world is open to them once more following Corona travel restrictions, including cheap destinations. And secondly, that our guests appreciate the price-performance ratio,” says Walter Veit, President of the Austrian Hotel Association, in an initial analysis of the 2023 summer balance. This is also important to the hosts: “We need the guests. We cannot price ourselves out of the market. On the contrary,” Veit emphasizes that many hotels might not and cannot pass on the costs in full: “So the prices are definitely not too high.”

COFAG and energy cost subsidy 2 are tearing holes in balance sheets

According to Veit, it will only become clear whether they are high enough when the balance sheets are drawn up: “They are crucial, the overnight stays alone say far too little.” In many cases, there are still large amounts of compensation due to slow and incorrect Corona compensation Gaps in the balance sheets, and also in the case of the energy cost subsidy 2, operating companies that have leased the hotel property are once more faced with a dilemma: First, the costs for the lease were neither replaced nor reduced, but now in many cases they receive the energy cost subsidy from the lessors to calculate the energy cost subsidy 2 do not receive information regarding energy consumption in a timely manner and instead have to use the consumption of 2021 as a basis for calculation – the record lockdown year in which the hotels were almost entirely closed in the relevant winter months. “Regardless of whether this was decided intentionally or out of ignorance: it needs to be changed quickly,” demands Veit.
