In recent years, the Austrian Student Union (ÖH) has placed a particular focus on health measures for students. In addition to implementing free HPV vaccinations up to the age of 30 together with the Federal Youth Council and the “HPV vaccination now!” initiative. as well as the massive expansion of the ÖH helpline, there is now an offer for free STI testing. The ÖH chairmanship team consisting of Sarah Rossmann, Nina Mathies and Simon Neuhold emphasizes the importance of this offer: “For us as an ÖH, low-threshold and free access to STI testing is an important concern. With our new offer, together with AIDS charities, we are ensuring direct access to testing for the diseases syphilis as well as chlamydia and gonorrhea throughout Austria.”
The free tests can be redeemed at AIDS charities in Vienna, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Carinthia/Koroška, Tyrol and Vorarlberg using vouchers that must first be issued in the online ÖH shop.
Austria’s AIDS charities welcome this cooperation with the ÖH.
Representing Austria’s AIDS charities (all of which can be found on aidshilfen.at), Andrea Brunner from Aids Hilfe Vienna says: “Sexually transmitted infections are increasing throughout Europe. Therefore, increased awareness and preventive measures are needed to curb STIs. For this reason, the free STI tests for students are a really important factor in taking preventive action. Thank you for this great initiative.”
