The Guinean Organization for the Defense of Human and Citizen’s Rights (OGDH) expresses its deep concern regarding the evolution of the socio-political climate currently prevailing in the country. It condemns in the strongest terms all the violence recorded in all its forms on July 28 and 29, 2022, following the call to demonstrate launched by the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) which demands more transparency in the conduct of the Transition and the establishment of an inclusive dialogue framework in accordance with the spirit of Article 77 of the Transition Charter.
At least three (3) cases of loss of life, injuries including some by bullets and several arrests were reported to him by his monitors deployed in the field. It deplores in particular that some of these arrests were made in violation of the relevant procedural rules.
The OGDH recalls that the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights as well as the Transitional Charter all guarantee the right to life, the right to security, the right of demonstration and procession, freedom of assembly as well as freedom of expression and opinion.
The OGDH regrets that these actions are in total contradiction with the commitments of the Guinean State in terms of the protection of human rights. To this end, it calls for prompt and prompt independent investigation to determine the circumstances which led to the various deaths recorded as well as all the violence and human rights violations recorded and also demands the immediate and condition of all prisoners of conscience.
Finally, she urges Colonel Mamadi DOUMBOUYA, President of the Transition to guarantee respect for the rights and freedoms of citizens and to work for the establishment of a framework for inclusive dialogue in order to prevent Guinea from falling back into difficulties leading to uncertain tomorrows.
